A Costly Truth

The characters begin advanced training with a special unit of the Crimson Codex after rescuing a former Codex leader on Xen’drik. Their promotion to the rank of Viper depends on completing the training, but unusual events at a nearby archaeological dig soon draw them into a larger conflict. The dig explores an ancient ziggurat built by drow servants for their giant masters. Within it lies a portal capable of creating and controlling manifest zones to other planes, drawing the attention of the daelkyr Virulence. As corrupted operatives, hidden loyalties, and a fractured undercover agent complicate the investigation, the characters must uncover the truth and prevent the portal from falling into enemy hands. Designed as a one-round adventure for 7th-level characters.
