Players take on the roles of geologists on an expedition, moving across a board to excavate different mineral specimens hidden in the rock. They use tools to reach rarer and more valuable minerals, balancing tool costs against potential rewards. Excavated minerals can be kept individually or converted into collections that score additional points. The game resolves by totaling the value of collected minerals and completed collections, with player movement and timing influencing access to the most valuable finds.
