Cosmic Encounter

Players lead alien civilizations seeking to establish colonies across the cosmos. Each species has a unique ability that changes or bends the rules, while alliances, negotiation, and calculated aggression shape every encounter. On a turn, players send ships to attack planets and resolve battles using encounter cards, with other players choosing whether to provide assistance. The first player or players to establish five colonies on planets outside their home system wins.

I just don't get it. I have a strong desire to buy the new FFG edition, thinking that will show me the light. But that's pretty silly.

I love this game. I've heard the newer version is better, but I kind of like the spaceships in this one over the ufos in the latter.
