Historia
Guide a civilization through 12,000 years of human history, from the first sparks of civilization to the development of the Singularity. Discover technologies, expand across the planet, trade with neighbors, exploit land, wage wars, and build wonders. Use action cards to direct your civilization, reclaiming used actions from a discard queue as the game progresses. Wars and raids resolve without disrupting play, and the civilization with the most victory points when modern times are reached wins. A solo variant with AI opponents is also included.

Evan3,5 There is a lot to like about historia. The chart is attractive, the map area is interesting. I like how new things get unlocked as you climb. I love the mechanism of how players all play their actions face down and then simultaneously reveal. Where this game sadly falls short is the endgame payoff. When you cap at the top of the chart, the game simply says, ok, next time you gain more you get 2 points. The game also doesn't do much to reward diversity. You either max out military and get certain benefits, or max out technology and get certain other benefits. Being in the middle seems unrewarding. The game also rewards VP for players who control areas on the map by themselves. Any player can drop a cube in there pretty easily to deny you the points, but you can only remove them if you have more military. If the two players in question are both capped at the top of the military chart, well, there's no recourse. Then, each age you get a leader card who gives you extra VP for meeting one or both of two requirements. Often times those requirements would not be possible to complete given what you had chosen to focus on previously, and often those choices were based on the leader you got in the previous round. The whole thing was riveting for the first three quarters of the game. Then, as the game came to a close, turn time expanded as the players who managed to grab the wonder cards took a long time resolving their effects, and then the game just ended without a sense of buildup or excitement. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★☆☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
