Le Roi Des Roses

Two factions compete for area control on a square grid using a single shared pawn. Players keep an open hand of cards that specify a direction and distance; on a turn a player either draws a card or plays one to move the pawn to an empty square and place a personal marker there. Each player also holds a small number of one-use judge tokens that allow landing on an opponent’s marker and flipping it. Regions score as the square of their size, so contiguous clusters of markers yield increasing points. Hands have a maximum size, forcing occasional draws when plays are unavailable. Includes rules for four players in two partnerships.
