A Distant Plain

A four-faction asymmetric counterinsurgency simulation of the modern Afghan conflict where Government, Coalition, Taliban and regional Warlords (and Pakistan as a volatile actor) pursue competing objectives. Players conduct military operations, political actions, governance and development efforts, and insurgent attacks using a card-driven system that integrates events, capabilities and evolving tactics. Two COIN-aligned factions must coordinate joint operations while managing graft, desertion and civilian returns. Multiple scenarios and a large event deck generate shifting strategic dilemmas; flowcharts support solitaire or up to four-player play.
