Downtown: Air War Over Hanoi, 1965-1972
Simulation of operational air warfare over Hanoi and the Red River Valley during the Rolling Thunder and Linebacker campaigns (1965–1972). Players command large US strike packages—bombers, fighters, recon, jammers and SEAD “Iron Hand” flights—aiming to destroy ground targets by coordinating attack, escort and suppression elements. The opposing player fields layered North Vietnamese air defenses: AAA concentrations, radar-directed artillery, SAM battalions and MiG interceptions, seeking to disrupt and attrit the strike packages. Includes 20 historical scenarios and multi-day campaigns. Tactical scale uses 1-minute turns and 2.5 mile hexes; units represent flights, SAM battalions and AAA concentrations. Designed for two or more players with high complexity and long play sessions.
