MONSTArgh!

Players secretly receive a species token and build a tableau of monster cards from a shared deck that contains six copies of each species numbered 1–6. On a turn a player places a monster card into an empty space orthogonally adjacent to existing cards. The newly placed card becomes the Protagonist and interacts with any adjacent monsters whose value is exactly one point lower. When the Protagonist interacts with an adjacent monster of a different species, it is placed on top of that card (foreground). When it interacts with one of the same species, the adjacent card is moved beneath the Protagonist (background), taking any cards it already held under it. Victory goes to the player whose species has the most cards in the foreground (close-up shots) at the end of the game.
