Sniper Elite has more bells and whistles than my favorite hidden-movement game, Whitehall Mystery, and yet, it is not any less of a game for it. Everything serves a purpose to create a more mechanically complicated, but much more thematically rich game than Whitehall. The theme makes the game more intuitive to understand. + unique officer abilities provide variety for Defenders and extra risks for the Sniper + Sniper loadouts will greatly affect how the Sniper player chooses their approach, adding to the variability between games + handicaps that can help balance the game if one side keeps losing are much appreciated + the boards well-illustrated but not busy. There are no superfluous pieces + actions and turns for both sides are simple and self-explanatory ++ the way the designers implemented a sniping and alert system by using a bag-building mechanic is really fun and something I've never seen before + line-of-sight rules may seem complicated at first, but I believe they are well thought out and intuitive + rulebook is top notch with plenty of clarifying examples This board game, more than any other, truly makes me feel like I'm playing a stealth video game, which is something I never thought would be possible.
