Liberté

Play out the political and military struggle of the French Revolution from 1789 to 1799. Players place faction blocks for Radicals, Moderates, and Royalists across provinces and claim those blocks with personal control tokens to build influence. Cards come from two decks that shift the balance of power over time, and rounds end in elections when a faction’s blocks are exhausted; the faction with the most support forms the government. Players score points for influence in government and opposition, for electoral wins in provinces, and for commanding victorious battles. Alternate sudden-death endings exist if one faction achieves a decisive landslide or Royalist counter-revolution.

Never played, just read the rules. But it seems like the random cards are dictacting the play. Horrible rules regarding resolving ties and split victory points.

In this elections game there are three political parties, the royals, the extremists and the moderates. You play cards to add vote tokens for specific parties to the board, and you want to ideally be the one who supports the winning party in the most spots, and also support the second place winner in the most spots. Ultimately you don't care which government is in power, you just care if they like you the best, as your success is based on having whichever side wins liking you best. This game could be improved if the character cards had quotes on them from the people represented and if it came with more than one player aid in English, but those are minor issues. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :star: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
