Churchill

Three players portray the wartime leaders of the Allied powers and maneuver through a series of ten conferences that shape military direction, production priorities, clandestine operations, and postwar influence. Each conference plays as a card-driven debate around a circular table: players play staff-person cards to move named issues toward their side, contest ownership, and occasionally expend their Head of State with powerful but risky effects. Winning issues grants leverage in bilateral global questions and determines which actions each side can implement in the ensuing phase. Post-conference play resolves clandestine networks, political actions, and abstractized military offensives across multiple theaters; fronts advance against Axis reserves and surrender when pushed into the enemy homeland. Scenarios cover the full war or shorter segments, with two- and three-player and solitaire options.

A fantastic political simulator! PROS - The game generates dynamics I've never seen in any other design. It embraces kingmaking through its 3-player nature, constant alliances / mutual interests / clashing strategies and final scoring scenarios. - Each different faction has strengths and weaknesses, but their implementation is subtle and historically accurate (broadly speaking). CONS - In order to remain historically accurate, some rules are fiddly and the design is more complex than needed. - The subtle asymmetry means that players will not grasp the differences and strategies in their first games. It is definitely not a game for casual players or to play once expecting to do a good performance.
