Cantaloop: Book 1 – Breaking into Prison

Play as a small-time criminal returned from exile who seeks revenge and must recruit a crew with complementary skills. The game adapts classic point-and-click mechanics to a cardboard book: explore illustrated locations, talk to characters, collect and combine items, and use them to solve puzzles. Open-world movement and non-linear puzzle design keep multiple objectives available at once. Playtime for this part runs several hours, with a larger campaign across the trilogy. Dialogue appears in speech bubbles to drive the story and encourage group roleplay, and a built-in help system offers hints and solutions without altering game components.

My review is maybe not the most helpful because I realized that this is just not a type of game that I enjoy. I should have remembered from my childhood that Myst and other similar games just really annoyed me. I do, however, think that the mechanic does a great job of bringing out the flavor of those older computer games.

As a big fan of point-and-click adventure games, I really enjoyed this game. I found myself consulting the hint section more than other games of this genre, but I liked the story and the random easter eggs. If you played and enjoyed a Monkey Island PC game, you will probably like this too.
