Arboretum

2015 · Jeu de cartes

Arboretum

Players build a personal grid of numbered tree cards in different colors, creating orthogonally connected paths that increase in value. On each turn, a player draws two cards (from the deck or discard piles), plays one card into their arboretum, then discards one to a private discard pile. When the deck runs out, players compare the values of cards they still hold by color to determine who scores each color. The highest value in a color grants scoring for a path that begins and ends with that color; scoring awards one point per card in the path, or two points per card if the entire path is the same color. Highest total points wins.

Clever design where you have to build tree suits in your tableau but keep some cards of that same suit to have the opportunity to score it. We'll see how it marks after further games.

juego de arbolitos muy cuqui pero no tan cuqui como para comprarlo.

+ Simple & interesting gameplay + Beautiful artwork + Great quality cards - Rather stressful Update: I really wanted to love this game, but I must admit I hate the "you only score if you have majority" rule. This game is just too mean for me. I have other games that offer a similar experience with a fair bit less agonizing involved.

Questions de règles

Réponses tirées du livret par l'assistant de règles de Ludoya.

How many colors/cards do we use with 2, 3, or 4 players?

The deck has 10 colors of 8 cards each (80 cards total); with 4 players use all colors, with 3 players return 2 colors to the box, and with 2 players return 4 colors to the box (it doesn’t matter which colors are removed). (page 2)

Which colors should we take out when playing with fewer than 4 players?

It does not matter which specific colors are returned to the box when playing with 2 or 3 players — any colors may be removed. (page 2)

Who deals and who is the start player?

The player who last watered a plant is the start player; the player to that start player's right is the dealer, who shuffles and deals. (page 2)

How many cards does each player get at the start?

The dealer shuffles and deals 7 cards to each player; those 7 cards form each player’s starting hand. (page 2)

What do we do with the remaining cards after dealing?

After dealing the starting hands, place the remaining cards in the middle of the table to form the draw pile. (page 2)
