Faiyum

Players act as royal advisors rebuilding an artificial basin into productive farmland under the pharaoh’s authority. On each turn players play cards to a personal discard stack, execute simple actions (harvest, build roads and settlements, acquire resources and money), then take those cards back into hand in reverse order, so play order and timing matter. New purchases enter the hand immediately, affecting sequencing. The board shows canals, fields and shared structures; buildings are owned by the pharaoh and can be used by any player. Score comes from developing the region and earning the pharaoh’s respect through efficient card combinations and strategic planning.

In this game players activate card effects to place pieces on the board to score points. Once the pieces are down, they don't belong to any one player so anyone can leverage them for future moves. When you reset your hand you can pick up the top three cards of your discard pile for free, but have to pay for additional cards you retrieve. This makes planning your turns a really interesting puzzle as you try and bury cards that have run out of usefulness. The game is quite satisfying, but runs about an hour too long for the experience it delivers. The game ends when the draw pile is depleted and it just feels a little too large, in particular as the game doesn't auto discard cards that place tokens that are no longer available, clogging the card display a bit.
