Pulitzer

Players lead a team of American investigative journalists in the early 1970s, balancing newsroom prestige and sales with time and resources spent chasing a major exposé. Play lasts eight rounds split into a hidden Placement phase—where journalists are assigned to board locations to publish exclusives, work off-site, document, or investigate—and a simultaneous Resolution phase, when all assignments are revealed and conflicts in each zone are resolved. Investigative progress is tracked on a personal report board as players collect pieces of evidence; uncovering evidence advances the central investigation toward award eligibility. The game includes solo and two-player advanced options and multiple modes to adjust player count and experience.

It's a Eurogame of medium difficulty, worker placement, with hidden majorities, and a player board that's visually captivating. I played it for the first time in Girona at the Ludivers fair for three turns, and the demo didn't seem enough. I played it again at the Granollers fair in jugar x jugar, and that's when I was able to really enjoy the game. Another time, I played it for three turns, and it didn't feel enough. It will be released in Spiel in 2025, and I'm already looking forward to the day I can enjoy it. The game mechanics are already well-known and established, but the core of the game, for me, is on the player board, where you'll have to create lines of investigation to be able to complete at least five investigations to be eligible for points at the end of the game. I can't imagine playing the last turns when you see that you need to complete at least five investigations to be able to score. The board where you create your research lines is a new mechanic never seen before. For this reason alone, it should be the surprise game of 2025.

You’ll find a worker placement game that mixes auctions and majorities. The most unique element of the game is your player board. There, you’ll have to use punches and thread to advance your investigation. This mechanism doesn’t even have a name — it’s so original! The game really burns your brain when you have to decide where to place your worker and how much weight to assign. Each round increases the pressure, and you feel the rush to find the five pieces of evidence needed for the final scoring. I think Pulitzer will be one of the hidden gems at the next Spiel. Absolutely.
