Wingspan

Amazing game! Simple mechanics yet hard combos to achieve. Lots of variety due to a big number of cards.

Excelente juego estilo familiar con suficiente estrategia. Buen despliegue, agradable a la vista. Algunos combos son demasiado devastadores, pero son pocos.

The components in the game are truly amazing, while the gameplay felt merely "pretty good" to me after 2 plays. Overall, it's a really pleasant experience. Not sure about my final rating but here are some thoughts on the gameplay: It's really tight, the actions are cleverly interconnected so you'll need to do everything eventually even if you opt for a certain strategy. I'm not sure yet if you can pull off big combos like e.g. in Burgundy. It always feels like you need more actions than what you have, but that's part of the challenge I guess. There's a fair amount of luck in the game, whether it's the dice that determine what type of food you can get, or the cards that are on offer or you draw blindly. There are times when there's just no way to get what you need, and that can be frustrating when you have such a limited number of actions. That said, I still find the game very much enjoyable (the components do help a lot for me), but remember not to take it too seriously, just relax and enjoy its beauty while trying to solve a rather unique puzzle. Update: It only seems to be getting better and better with each play (we're almost at 10 plays now). 7.8 -> 8.2 Back to a 7.7. The look of the game is still impossible to resist, but I have to say the game is far from perfect. The luck of the draw and the dice is often really annoying. Also, the turns are never really that exciting, sometimes you can pull off some nice combos but it's still just a handful of points (whether that comes from food, tucked cards or eggs). The late game egg-spam was kinda mitigated with some of the cards from the European expansion, but it's still not ideal. I'm still interested in the Oceania expansion, but I don't feel like I really need any more content in this game, so we'll see. + European Expansion

Domande sulle regole

Risposte tratte dal regolamento dall'assistente per le regole di Ludoya.

Do my brown “When Activated” bird powers trigger when I play a bird or only when I take the habitat action?

Brown “When Activated” powers trigger only when you take the corresponding habitat action and move your action cube right-to-left in that row; playing a bird only triggers its “When Played” power (it does not activate the row). (Rulebook pp.4, 6, 10)

Can I use food tokens that are cached on my birds to pay a bird’s food cost?

No — when playing a bird you must pay food tokens from beside your player mat, not food cached on bird cards; cached food is a separate resource (worth points at game end). (Rulebook pp.6, 10)

When I take the Gain Food action, how many food do I get and can I reroll the birdfeeder dice?

You gain one food token for each die you remove from the birdfeeder (choose the die face’s food; the invertebrate/seed face gives a choice of one of those two), and if the tray is ever empty you refill all dice; if all dice in the tray show the same face you may first throw all 5 dice back before gaining food. (Rulebook p.7)

If I take the Draw Cards action and take a face-up bird, do I refill the bird tray immediately or later?

You do not refill the tray immediately; wait until the end of your turn to refill any empty face-up spaces, and at the end of each round discard any remaining face-up cards and replenish the tray. (Rulebook pp.9, 5)

Can I spend two food tokens as one of a different type at any time, or only in certain cases?

The option to spend any two food tokens as if they were one of a particular type applies only when you are playing a bird and cannot be used during other parts of the game. (Rulebook p.6)
