Friedrich: Anniversary Edition

It is mid‑18th century Europe as a coalition of powers threatens Prussia and one player commands Frederick the Great while others control invading nations. Players move generals across a stylized Old Europe map, contest cities and provinces, and use tactical cards to trigger battles, maneuvers and special events. The Prussian player must retain portions of key provinces to survive, while attackers pursue country objectives and coordinate assaults. Play balances long‑term positioning with card‑driven opportunities; country elimination can occur but players themselves are not removed by fate cards. The rules aim for historical flavour with a compact rule set and tactical depth.

I find the movement and battle system to be quite intriguing. Love the fact that you need to position your generals on the map according to where your hand indicate you are the strongest. You also need to remember what type of suit players earlier than you in turn order played during their last fight to give you an indication to where they may be the weakest. The negatives for me was the long playtime compared to how much I feel I do every turn. I also felt really bad for the French and Russian player as the Fate cards sometimes punish them severly souring the gameplay for everyone.
