Players mount archaeological expeditions represented by colored suits of cards, playing cards in ascending order to start and advance each expedition or discarding to suit-specific piles. On a turn a player first plays a card to an expedition or to a discard pile, then draws from the deck or the top of a discard pile. Special handshake cards act as early investments and serve as multipliers for an expedition’s final value. Each expedition begins at −20; numbered cards add their face value, handshakes multiply the subtotal, and an eight-card expedition earns a 20-point bonus. Games are played over multiple matches with expedition scores summed to determine the winner.

我在自己的回合一定要出一张牌吗，还是可以跳过？
你每回合必须先打出手中的一张牌——要么把它加到你的某一列里（开始一列或延续一列），要么把它弃到对应的弃牌堆——然后才能抽一张牌（第 2–3 页）。
我可以把一张牌放在那一列里比最后一张牌更低或者相等的位置吗？
不——每个新放进某一列的牌，必须比你在那一列最近放的那张牌数值更高（第3页）。
我已经在那个牌列里打出一张数字牌之后，还能再打出 wager（下注）牌吗？
不——赌注牌只能放在一列的起始位置，而且一旦你已经在那一列放了一张数字牌，就不能再打出该颜色的赌注牌了（第3页）。
如果我弃掉一张牌，我能不能马上通过从那个弃牌堆抽牌把它拿回来？
不——抽牌时，你可以选择任意弃牌堆顶牌或牌堆顶牌，但不允许抽你刚刚弃掉的那张牌（第3页）。
赌注和只有空牌或赌注的列怎么计分——如果我只打出赌注牌会怎样？
每一列的得分方式是：把该列的牌面点数加总后，再减去 20 点的探险费用（如果你一张牌都没放，就不扣这个费用）；下注牌会把这个结果乘倍（1 张/2 张/3 张下注牌分别 ×2/×3/×4），所以如果一列只有下注牌（没有数字牌），那它的总和就是 0，但还是要先扣掉 −20 的费用，然后再乘上去（第 3–4 页）。
