Pinochle

Players bid for the right to set trump and then try to make their bid by winning tricks with a modified deck that contains two of each card from 9 through Ace. Before trick play, players lay down melds—runs, marriages, pinochles, and sets—that score immediately and influence strategy. During tricks, players must follow suit, are required to trump when void, and must overtrump when able, creating tight tactical play between melding and trick-taking. Variants support two-player and partnership formats and use double (or sometimes quadruple) decks to accommodate different player counts and scoring styles.
