Cthulhu: Death May Die

Play as 1920s investigators who deliberately summon eldritch beings so they can stop them for good. The cooperative game splits each scenario into two acts: events before the ritual and the chaos that follows once the Elder One appears. Players roll and allocate dice to resolve actions, manage growing insanity that can alter outcomes, and try to keep at least one investigator alive once the monster arrives. Scenarios are self-contained episodes with repeating structure, and the group wins by disrupting the ritual or defeating the summoned horror after it manifests.

Can I move through spaces with enemies or do they block my movement?

You may move into and through spaces as long as passages connect, and any number of figures can occupy a space; however, when you leave a space that contains enemies, ALL enemies there follow you to your new space. (pages 9, 12)

How do bonus dice and rerolls work — can I stack bonus dice and spend stress to reroll enemy dice?

There is no limit to how many bonus (green) dice you may add to a roll, and if you run out of dice you re-roll the same dice again; after rolling you may spend 1 stress to reroll a single die, and you may do this (including on enemy rolls) as often as you like until your stress is at maximum. (pages 11, 8)

Can I draw a Discovery card if there are enemies in my space?

No — you only Investigate (draw a Discovery) if you are in a Safe space (a space with no enemies); if you are not in a Safe space, you do not draw and each enemy in your space attacks you instead. (pages 15, 9)

What exactly makes the Elder One advance or get summoned?

At the Mythos check, if there are 3 Mythos discard cards showing the Elder One Summoning symbol you advance the Elder One along the Summoning track and then shuffle the discards back into the deck; the Elder One is summoned to the board when it reaches the first red space or when the ritual is disrupted. (page 17)

Can we attack the Elder One as soon as it appears on the board?

No — until the ritual is disrupted the Elder One cannot be attacked or damaged even if it has been summoned to the board; once the ritual is disrupted the Elder One can be attacked and must be defeated stage by stage. (page 18)

If my wounds or sanity reach the skull, what happens, and does that immediately lose the game?

If your wound marker reaches the skull you are dead, and if your sanity marker reaches the skull you are consumed by madness and eliminated; if an investigator is killed or consumed before the Elder One has been summoned the investigators immediately lose, but if the Elder One is already on the board the other investigators may continue. (pages 8, 18, 19)
