Port Royal: Big Box
Manage a bustling port by hiring ships and crew, taking contracts, and resolving encounters with pirates and merchants. Players draw cards to assemble fleets, recruit specialists, and commit resources to complete missions and earn rewards. If I draw a ship that's the same color/type as one already in the harbor, does the Discover phase stop right away?
Yes — drawing a duplicate ship immediately stops the Discover phase (the duplicate ship rule ends the draw); see the rulebook p.4–5.
How do cutlasses/repelling ships work — can I remove ships from the harbor or only stop the draw?
You repel (remove) a ship from the harbor by using the Sailor/Pirate (cutlass) effect, which takes that ship out of play so it isn't available to be taken and can affect whether the draw continues; see the rulebook p.5 and professions p.9.
During someone else's Trade & Hire phase, can I take a card from the harbor and what do I pay?
Yes — other players may take exactly one card from the harbor during another player's Trade & Hire phase by paying 1 coin to do so; see the rulebook p.6.
How do I claim an Expedition — do I have to discard a Jack or specific professions?
Certain professions (for example Priest, Captain, Settler and Jack) may be discarded to meet an Expedition's requirements, and you claim an Expedition by discarding the required cards as stated; see the rulebook p.5 and the profession abilities listing p.8.
How many Influence points do I need to win, and are there alternate end conditions?
The standard competitive win condition is 12 Influence (with some variants and options such as 12+Expedition or an 8-Influence shorter game); see the rulebook p.7 (and additional end-game/variant details p.18).
