Os jogadores competem para construir a antiga estrada que liga Roma a Brundísio, selecionando e colocando lajes de pedra retiradas de uma pedreira compartilhada. Um mecanismo físico de “moedas caindo” determina quais lajes ficam disponíveis, então o momento e o posicionamento na pedreira influenciam as opções. Os jogadores gastam dinheiro para avançar pela estrada, colocam lajes para estender trechos e coletam pontos por segmentos valiosos e por chegar cedo às cidades. O jogo enfatiza o planejamento espacial, a gestão de recursos e o timing, enquanto os jogadores tentam montar a rota mais valiosa.

This game works like one of those machines in an arcade where you put a coin in and hope it pushes more coins out. In this case, coins are replaced with some nice wooden disks. You spend the disks that fall to buy stone tokens in the same size or dollars, and then build the road part of the board and walk down the road. The dexterity aspect of this game is really entertaining. I thought that would be the part I didn't like about the game, but in fact I thought it was pretty fantastic. Placing the road bits down was fine too, as there is a sloppily implemented area control aspect to that, which I also enjoyed (although I would have liked it more if we put tokens down to mark how we were doing rather than collect tokens and make it hidden information.) The tedious part was having to pay money to walk down the road. There is a poorly implemented blocking aspect in terms of the size of the stone you sit on, and it makes the game outlive it's welcome in terms of playtime.
