Players compete as rival cryptozoologists who each hold one private clue about the creature’s true location and habitat. On each turn, players ask targeted questions and make public moves to gather information while concealing details of their own clue, using deduction and controlled deception to narrow down possibilities. A modular map, multiple clue booklets, and a large deck of setup cards create many possible scenarios across two difficulty levels; an optional digital companion can speed setup and expand puzzles. Some printings include a delta clue booklet with eight misprinted clues swapping cougar and bear in the specified entries.

Can I lie when another player asks me "Could the creature be here?"
No — you must be honest and place a disc or cube according to your clue; the game depends on honest placements (Rulebook p.5, p.6).
If I question a space and the player I asked places a cube, do I also have to place a cube?
Yes — if a questioned player places a cube, you must place one of your cubes on a different space that cannot be the habitat according to your clue (Rulebook p.6, p.5).
When I declare a search, do I have to put my disc on that space straight away?
Yes — when you search you must immediately place one of your discs on the searched space (or, if you already have a disc there, place a disc on another legal space) (Rulebook p.6).
Can I remove or move pieces from the board later if I change my mind?
Normally no — pieces are never removed from the board, but if you made a placement mistake you must announce it and immediately change the piece and move the removed piece to another legal space as described (Rulebook p.5, p.7).
When a clue says "within one space of" something, does that include the space that thing is on?
Yes — any element is zero spaces from itself, so "within one space" includes the element's own space and any spaces that touch it (Rulebook p.7, p.8).
