2005 · Jeu de cartes
Louis XIV
Compete for influence at the French court during the late 17th century. Players act as courtiers who pursue private missions and public goals by playing cards and placing influence markers on high-ranking attendants—from royal relatives to the king’s favorites. Actions shift the balance of power, trigger court events, and score points through controlled patrons and completed objectives. Gameplay emphasizes planning, timing, and tactical use of limited resources, with shifting alliances and contested positions that keep the final outcome uncertain until the end.

Evan3,5 This is a perfectly fine game, where on your turn you drop 1-3 markers in a mancala sort of path along a series of 1-3 tiles. The card you play dictates where in the grid you can start your path from. Once everyone is done playing cards, the tiles are evalutates for mosties. The person with the most gets a discount, or maybe does the thing alone, and then if possible, other players pay for the same effect. The goal of the game is points, which come from picking up flag tokens and completing quest cards, which all want certain things, and all have neat powers that give you a vague sense that you are building an engine. Again, the game is fine, it's just that the little engine you create isn't that satisfying, and there is a lot of chaos, so going early in play order is a pretty large disadvantage. This is by no means game breaking as turn order passes each of the 4 rounds, but it does cause a certain lack of caring. This is a competently designed game that's just not that much fun. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ☆ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★★☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
Tom2,5 I just don't like playing the game - it has a mechanical feel to it with the ending feeling like it was almost randomly applied.
