Aeon's End

Survivors shelter in an underground city and train breach mages who can convert the invading energy into gems, spells and weapons. Players cooperate as a team of unique mages, managing individualized decks to cast spells, acquire new cards and activate special abilities. The game uses a variable turn order to reflect chaotic assaults, and a discard-and-deck-management system that makes every played and discarded card significant. Players work together to repel waves of enemies and protect the city’s core through coordinated planning and resource management.

No reinventa la rueda, las partidas dependen mucho del setup inicial del mercado, de los personajes, la némesis y las cartas del mazo de ésta. Y aún con esas, me parece un juego que resulta desafiante. Un puzzle colectivo en el que si se evita jugar por las demás personas, la diversión está asegurada. Necesitas una visualización previa del mercado de cartas/pool de personajes/némesis para hacerte una idea de qué podrías hacer... Una falsa ilusión porque pese a "conocer" que te va a salir en cada mano y como puedes modificar que te saldrá, sigues sin saber las cartas de la némesis. Esa obligación a trabajar de forma reactiva contra el mal me parece muy entretenida y la sorpresividad en los juegos de mesa cooperativos le da ese punto de ficción narrativa que tanto me gusta. Además al ser sencillo de reglas, se lo puedo presentar a cualquier amigui y eso siempre suma

Hyped Game? I don't understand this hype. It's a very generic game and the artwork is also not very appealing. But most importantly the gameplay is more frustrating than enjoyable. I like tough coop games like Spirit Island, which is also co-op and hard to beat. Especially on more advanced difficulty levels. But this one is just randomly unfair.

Do I shuffle my discard pile into my deck when I need to draw and my deck is empty?

No — you flip your discard pile over to form a new deck and continue drawing; you never shuffle the discard pile (page 16).

When do the gems and relics I play go to the discard pile?

Played gems and relics stay in your play area during the turn and are placed on top of your discard pile in any order at the start of your draw phase (page 16; see also discard order on page 14).

If I gain or buy a card during my main phase, does it go to my hand or my discard pile?

Any card you gain from the supply is immediately placed on top of your discard pile (page 14).

If I focus or open a breach and prep a spell, can I cast that spell the same turn?

You may prep a spell to a breach you opened or focused this turn, but prepped spells are cast during that player's next casting phase; however, some "While prepped" main‑phase effects can be used the turn the spell is prepped (pages 15 and 13).

Do I keep unspent aether between turns?

No — any aether you gain on a turn that is not spent is lost at the end of that turn (page 14).

What happens when a player's life is reduced to zero (they're exhausted)?

The exhausted player triggers the nemesis's Unleash effect twice, destroys one of their breaches (discarding any prepped spell there), discards all charge tokens, cannot gain life, and any further damage to them is instead doubled and applied to Gravehold; if all players are exhausted the players lose (page 19).
