Beyond the Sun

Players guide humanity’s technological progress at the dawn of the Spacefaring Era while competing as rival factions for economic, scientific, and galactic influence. On each turn a player places an action pawn, takes the action, runs a production step (produce ore, grow population, or trade resources), and may claim an achievement. Actions and research unlock technologies in four types and levels, and technologies must link to preceding types, so a unique tech tree emerges each game. Players use tech, production, and colonization to expand to new systems, build economic engines, increase military or commercial capabilities, develop androids, and score victory points through development, control of systems, and achievements.

Questions de règles

Réponses tirées du livret par l'assistant de règles de Ludoya.

If I research a tech, can I also build and move a ship in the same action?

Yes — the Basic Spacefaring action lets you optionally transform 1 Population into a level‑1 Spaceship and then perform the Jump movement in the same action (you may build and jump as part of that action). (see page 12).

Can I refuse to claim an Achievement to delay the end of the game?

No — if you qualify for an Achievement you must claim it on your turn; when a total of 4 Achievement discs have been placed the end is triggered, and you finish the current round and then play one full final round. (see pages 10–11).

If I move all my ships away from a System, do I lose control of it?

Not necessarily — if all of the controlling Faction’s ships leave and no other ships are present, that Faction retains control and keeps the Outpost; control only changes if another Faction has strictly higher power or ties remove the leaving Faction’s control. (see page 18).

Do opponents' ships count toward the power requirement when I colonize a System?

No — to colonize you must control the System and return your own Ships whose combined power meets the printed requirement; opponents’ ships on the System do not affect whether you meet the colonization power threshold. After settling the required Ships, any remaining Ships are exiled to Deep Space. (see pages 20–21).

When I discover an undiscovered Level II/III slot, how is the Technology type chosen and how are the cards revealed?

You determine the new Technology’s type from the prerequisite card types (if there are two different types you choose one), then reveal from that level’s deck until you find two cards of that type and pick one; unmatched and unchosen revealed cards go face‑down to the bottom of the deck. (see pages 14–16).

What’s the difference between using a Population cube and taking a Supply cube directly?

Using a Population cube moves a cube from your Faction mat to the indicated effect (e.g., a Tech slot or to build a Ship), while taking a Supply cube removes cubes from your Supply Columns left‑to‑right to create Population or trigger effects; returning Population as a cost flips cubes back to Supply columns right‑to‑left. (see pages 13–14).
