Dominion

Los jugadores asumen el papel de monarcas rivales que expanden un pequeño reino adquiriendo cartas que representan tierras, edificios y ayudantes. Cada jugador empieza con una baraja diminuta idéntica y usa cartas de dinero y de acción para comprar cartas adicionales de un suministro compartido, construyendo su propia baraja a lo largo de la partida. La jugabilidad se centra en crear una baraja eficiente y en encadenar las cartas en el orden adecuado para generar recursos y puntos de victoria; en cada partida se elige un subconjunto de cartas del reino disponibles para cambiar las estrategias y aumentar la variedad de rejugabilidad.

    El juego que inventó el deckbuilding. Miles de juegos posteriores se han nutrido de esta genial mecánica pero, aunque muchos me gustan, todavía no he encontrado ninguno que sea claramente superior. La manera de equilibrar el mazo con cartas más potentes para luego hacerlo decrecer al comprar puntos de victoria me parece una genialidad. No obstante al solo poseer esa mecánica se me ha acabado haciendo muy repetitivo.

    I worship this game as the heavenly spawn of deliciously strategic deck building and deveptively simple mechanics. Pioneering the archetype of card drafters (Challengers, Mage Knight, Dune Imperium), Dominion fits orgasmic satisfaction into an ugly, awkward box. Indeed, it is one of the great pities of the world that the design for this game is not even slightly nicer, as if a smoother aesthetic would draw in even one person to play this game then it would be worth it. I cannot praise this glorious pile of cards enough, with its infinite replayability and personalisation to that heart wrenching moment when you draw a hand full of victory point cards. Buy this game. Buy it. Buy it.

Can I play Treasure cards during my Action phase or only in the Buy phase?

You normally play Treasure cards during your Buy phase — not during the Action phase — unless a card specifically allows playing Treasures as actions (p.6, p.8).

If I run out of cards while drawing, do I stop or shuffle my discard and keep drawing?

When you need to draw and your deck is empty, shuffle your discard to form a new deck and continue drawing the remaining cards (p.12).

When I gain or trash a card, where does it go? Does a gained card go to my hand or deck?

Unless a card says otherwise, a gained card goes to your discard pile; trashed cards go to the Trash pile and are removed from the game (p.7, p.12).

When do I discard the cards I played — immediately or during Clean-up?

Played cards stay 'in play' until your Clean-up phase, when you discard them (and any cards in your hand) and draw a new 5‑card hand, unless a card specifies a different destination (p.8, p.12).

How do Gardens score?

Gardens is worth 1 Victory Point for every 10 cards you have (rounded down); count your cards when final scores are tallied at game end (p.14, p.8).

How many Action cards can I play on my turn?

You start each turn with 1 Action and may play additional Actions only if cards you play give you extra +Actions (p.6, p.7).
